Mystery surrounds Kim Jong Un’s health once again

The North Korean leader earlier missed a high-profile public gathering and then speculations through media reports emerged about the whereabouts and health condition of the Secretive North Korean leader. Media had last reported Kim Jong Un’s whereabouts on April 11, 2020 before missing it all out.

However, on Sunday a key aide to South Korean president revealed and Kim was alive and doing well.

“Our government position is firm,” Chung-in Moon, foreign policy adviser to South Korean President Moon Jae-in, told Fox News. “Kim Jong Un is alive and well. He has been staying in the Wonsan area since April 13. No suspicious movements have so far been detected.”

The situation seemed much murkier last week and on last Tuesday, the leader was reported to be revering from a cardiovascular procedure according to South Korean media. But not specific information regarding his health was verified as the country is well-known for its stringent censorship practices inside its borders.

The mysterious leader to the surprise of many was not attending the national celebration of “Day of the Sun” which marks the birthday of his grandfather Kim II Sung, the founder and first autocratic ruler of the Communist North Korea.

The Daily NK, an online news website run by North Korean defectors based in neighboring Seoul, South Korea revealed that Kim was recovering from a surgery which he underwent at a coastal resort on April 12, 2020. The periodical also suggested that the dictator was having health issues because of chain smoking, overwork and obesity.

Other resources in South Korea also agree that Kim at its worst might be severely ill but is not dead. One source said has seen nothing substantial in the latest wave of speculations and exaggerated claims.

“The rumors are mixing and merging, getting less reliable,” the source said, adding the prospect of Kim dying soon was a “remote possibility.” The more likely scenario, the source added, was that Kim was still recovering.

“I don’t see how we can go from rumors and speculation to fact and interpretation until the North Koreans themselves decide to share something about his condition,” the source said.

He also analyzed that Kim’s record disappearance is 40 days and that speculations linked with Kim are nothing new. The previous time difference between North Korean dictator’s death news and the announcement is 2 to 3 days.

“That window is closing soon,” he added.

Another source also debunked the legend involving the death of Kim that was floated by a Satellite Channel in Hong Kong. He thinks the rumors was spread from a chatroom of Chinese doctors.

The leader had been previously signed at the coastal resort Wonsan and now that his train has been spotted at the coastal resort of Wonsan, the source says the rumors should die down. He also noted that any Chinese medical experts could never below the Beijing’s cover. The source also revealed that the leader has been in connection with various people to run the state.

A third source who has some insight on the development insisted Kim is definitely not dead. Had he been dead there would be signs of struggle for consolidation of power and movements of NK’s military and security apparatus which have not been seen and there is a tranquil peace in the country. He also added that all permutations linked with the demise of Kim Jong Un are false and he might recover soon from the surgery to regain the control of his republic.
